七、内容摘要：

Historically, Terahertz (THz) technologies were mainly used by the astronomy community for searching far-infrared radiation (cosmic background), and by the laser fusion community for the diagnostics of plasmas. Since the first demonstration of THz wave time-domain spectroscopy in the late 80’s, there has been a series of significant advances (particularly in recent years) as intense THz sources and more sensitive detectors provide new opportunities for understanding the basic science in the THz frequency range. Now, the region of the electromagnetic spectrum from 0.3 to 10 THz (1 mm – 30 μm wavelength) is a frontier area for research in physics, chemistry, biology, materials science and medicine. T-rays are developed for broad range applications, including medical diagnostic, industrial inspection, and homeland security.

八、主讲人简介：

张希成教授是罗彻斯特大学M. Parker Givens教授，是北京大学物理系77届学生，1981年赴美留学（CASPEA program)，1986年获美国布朗大学（Brown University）物理博士学位。1984年——1991年先后在麻省理工学院（MIT）、阿莫科研究中心（Amoco Research Center）和哥伦比亚大学（Columbia University）从事研究工作。1992年进入伦斯勒理工学院（Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute）任教，曾任主任教授 (Erik Jonsson Chair Professor of Science)、太赫兹研究中心主任和代理系主任，曾任罗彻斯特大学光学研究所所长。

张希成教授是美国科学促进会（AAAS）、美国物理学会（APS）、电气与电子工程师协会（IEEE）、美国光学学会（OSA）、国际光学工程协会（SPIE）的Fellow和澳洲科学院Selby Fellow，是Optics Letters的主编。张教授在各类国际会议中作大会发言、各类学术报告、学术研讨以及特邀报告600余次；累计在国内外期刊发表了论文300余篇、参与了23多本书及相关章节的编写工作；拥有29项美国专利；已获各类奖项30多项，包括2017 Australian Academy of Science Selby Fellow, 2014 IRMMW-THz Kenneth J Button奖, 2012 OSA William F. Meggers 奖, 2011 IEEE Photonics Society William Streifer 科学成就奖、2014  Kenneth Button Prize (Int. Soc IRMMW-THz)、2017  Australian Academy of Science Selby Fellow (Australia)、2018 Humboldt Prize, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Germany)等。

张教授自1988年开始从事THz成像和生物-医学应用，超快光子学、光电子学领域的研究。

张教授的H-Index = 86。
